The 2011 Social Media Marketing Industry Report found 90% of marketers believe social media is important to business. The biggest benefit was brand exposure, which was cited by 88% of the marketers surveyed by Social Media Examiner. Increasing traffic to sites was the second most cited benefit with 72% saying they gained traffic and subscribers due to social media outreach. Improved search rankings were another plus of social media marketing for about two-thirds of the respondents to the survey, which asked more than 3,000 marketers how social media has enhanced their Internet marketing efforts.
